Viré-Clessé ‘Charleston’

Created in 2016 to honor Sophie’s great-grandfather who planted these over 100 year old vines upon returning from WWI. Vinification is very traditional with 600L demi-muids being used just like he would have used. Clear pale lemon. The restraint here is remarkable – less exuberant than their Quintaine bottling but showing such natural grace, like a dignified gentleman who’s kept his vitality. Despite the warm vintage, these old vines deliver beautiful tension with a lovely saline thread running through. The year in well-seasoned oak (10+ years old) just whispers in the background, adding resonance and letting these remarkable old vines speak clearly. Really shows the class of old-vine Mâconnais at its finest.
