My name is Stefan Jost. Growing up in a German winery as son, grandson, brother and nephew of dedicated winemakers was certainly a perfect way to get in touch with wine and to develop a natural understanding for this magical beverage.
As a young adult, though, I realized that winemaking was not going to be my future. Instead I opted for a career in gastronomy, which lead me through various high-end restaurants in Germany and Switzerland. Wine was always at the centre of my professional focus, so taking up a job as Sommelier on the luxurious cruise liner “Seven Seas Voyager” was just a logical next step.
In 2008 I felt ready to settle down and took root in the fascinating Swiss wine trade. During my following years as a sales consultant for wine and – later on – wine store manager, I also discovered my passion for teaching wine classes. Offering an unpretentious approach to the fascinating universe of wine for newcomers and private enthusiasts is a great pleasure for me.
Currently I’m going through the finishing touches of my studies for the WSET Level 4 Diploma and after successfully wrapping up my thesis about German Silvaner will be awarded the title of “Weinakademiker” in spring 2019.
When I decided to work as an independent wine consultant in spring 2018, my old friend Tim was the first to book my services and included me into his new import project at Magnus Vinum. I help him with sales, administration and every now and then it’s my job to channel his creative temper.
